Blue Hill Observatory – 2008 was Warm, Wet and Calm

Blue Hill Observatory reported on their web site (http://www.bluehill.org)  on the past year, 2008.

The average temperature of 49.4 degrees F was about 2 degrees warmer than the long term (1891 – 2001) average.

The precipitation for the year, 59.45 inches, was 11.52 inches higher than the 110-year average.

The average wind speed, 12.6 mph, West, is the lowest average yet recorded at the observatory.

The observatory also posted the results for December 2008, saying that the month was the 3rd wettest and 4th snowiest December on record.  Go to the site, then click on “Climate Data” to view temperature, precipitation, and snow graphs for not only this past month, but past years, as well.

Blue Hill Observatory sits on top of Blue Hill at an elevation of 640 ft above sea level and is about 8 miles southwest of downtown Boston.
